Edinburgh St James Centre

Time-lapse Captures Europe’s Largest Crane Erecting at ESJ

Throughout the month of May, one of Europe’s largest cranes become a prominent feature of Edinburgh’s skyline.

The mighty Liebherr LTM11200 Crane arrived on site to assist with the lifting on the project’s heaviest beams. This included a 38.5-tonne beam that was erected using 40m of boom and 60m of jib to a 60m radius.

Throughout its two week duration on site, the crane successfully erected 15 heavy lifts which the 8 onsite tower cranes were unable to erect.

The spectacular redevelopment of the Edinburgh St James centre will revive the east end of Scotland’s capital and is set to inject over £1 Billion of investment into the city.

The development will feature a mixture of well known high street and high-end brands like John Lewis, Next, Zara, Everyman Cinema and W Edinburgh.

The retail and leisure element are anticipated to be finished in October 2020, followed by the full scheme completion in 2021.
