Network Rail undertook a programme of modernisig its signalling and control operations, requiring the construction of a new Maintenance Delivery Unit in Romford.
THe MDU site is located on 3.89ha of land adjacent to the proposed ROC site. The site was occupeid by a largely undisturbed tract of rail-side land. The MDU is a two storey building including a weighbridge, scrape metal storage aera and space for maintaining vehicles used by Network Rail.
BHC were appointed by Volker Fitzpatrick as the Structural Steelwork contractor. The scope of works included the supply, fabrication and erection of 153 tonnes to form the two storey building.
In addition, BHC were responsible for the provision and installation of metal decking, a precast lift shaft and precast stairs.
