Client: Project Henley 2, Plymouth
BHC Ltd. was awarded the structural steel and concrete sub-contract by Bowmer & Kirkland for the erection of a new 87,000 sq ft of Grade A office space with associated welfare facilities. The building is multidisciplinary for the marine, technology, executive and support functions while also being customer facing for corporate clients.
The erection of the 5 storey office building located within the Devonport Royal Dockyard is split into 2 phases along GL 4-4a. This allowed upper deck installation to commence mid-way through the erection of the main steel frame.
The erection of the main steel frame was completed within 10 weeks with the upper floors commencing on approximately week 6 of the construction programme. The duration of the metal decking and concrete was approximately 4.5 weeks. BHC Ltd. was responsible for the installation of 9,500 sqm of metal decking composite, with upstands on level 5, where BHC Ltd. adopted sacrificial galvanised edge trim to permit upstands to avoid health and safety issues.
1,150 cbm of concrete pours were sequenced from roof level down with an average of 2 floors being installed per week. Additional work carried out by BHC Ltd. included the installation of 2 pre-cast stairwells, installation of rebar and mesh for upper slabs and the installation of GRP open mesh.
BHC Ltd. used their own directly employed steel erection, metal decking and concrete squads to carry out the work involved for Project Henley.
