The project involved the construction of an office development situated within Glasgow’s financial district.
BHC Ltd supplied and erected hot rolled steelwork, additionally we also supplied and installed metal decking along with all the necessary safety netting and edge protection.
The steel erection was phased to allow metal decking to be installed in one phase with BHC then erecting the next phase while concrete was poured and cured in the next phase. This allowed BHC to use the finished floor slab to place Mobile Elevated Working Platforms and loads of steelwork on the finished floor. Temporary steelwork was incorporated within the floor depth to help spread additional loads due to this type of construction. This methodology was then repeated for the remainder of the project.
Another consideration and one which surfaces on many inner-city projects was the lack of available storage space for on-site materials. Materials were delivered in 15-tonne loads and lifted immediately to the first floor level for storage using the main contractor’s tower crane.
