The Blackpool Conference and Exhibition Centre is a brand new, purpose-built events venue. The venue is the first major development to happen within the Blackpool Winter Gardens complex since the construction of the Opera House in 1939.
BHC was appointed as the structural steelwork and concrete contractor on the new conference hall, with a capacity to hold approximately 2,000 delegates. The 2,400m2 building will directly link to both the Empress Ballroom and the Opera House to form a venue capable of hosting 7,000.
As the steelwork sub-contractor, BHC was responsible for the supply of materials, fabrication, carrying out surface treatments, delivery of materials and the erection of hot and cold rolled materials using our mobile cranes and access platforms. Per the design specifications from Elliot Wood Partnership Ltd, BHC prepared shop detail drawing to allow for the fabrication of the steelwork and the design of connections from loading supplied by the structural engineer. All hot rolled steelwork was shot-blasted to Swedish Standard SA 2.5 followed by a High Build Epoxy Zinc Phosphate primer to 75 microns. The erection of the secondary steelwork was incorporated with the detailing, fabrication and erection of the main structure to increase efficiency and minimise costs.
In addition to the steelwork contract, BHC supplied and laid C35 Concrete on 60mm trapezoidal shaped decking using S3 pump mix with 1 layer of A252 mesh reinforced plus loose reinforcement.
