BHC Ltd. was awarded the steelwork subcontract for the new, state-of-the-art Community and Leisure Centre with sports facilities. The two storey centre includes a swimming pool, gym, studio space, library, care, social spaces and county council services.
Working in accordance with Carillion Construction services, BHC Ltd. erected 462 tonnes of structural steelwork over a 16 week period. All hot rolled steelwork used within the swimming pool area of the centre was acid pickled followed by galvanising to BS EN ISO 1461 in order to achieve normal thickness.
BHC Ltd. was responsible for erecting 6 Structural Wood Composite Glulam Beams, spanning 21 m across a 25 m long swimming pool area. The Glulam Beams were GL24H grade European Whitewood. Prior to their installation, the beams were treated with a preservative coating and a clear stain.
Once the main structural steelwork frame was in place BHC Ltd. was responsible for installing 2,250 sqm of metal decking, edge trim, two steel staircase flights and landing areas, precast concrete staircases and precast concrete lift shafts.
BHC Ltd. used their own directly employed steel, metal decking and concrete squads.
