Maintenance Engineer

We have an opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to join the company to assist with the efficient and effective management for the day to day running of the Manufacturing Facility.

You will be responsible for:-

  • Ensuring that the facilities , layout and machinery used to produce new and existing materials and goods run to their maximum efficiency and output.
  • Total preventative maintenance, managing breakdowns of mechanical, electrical and robotic equipment (including software programming).
  • People management and budgetary/cost reporting.

You will report to the Production & Works Manager.

Duties include but are not limited to:-

  • Improving health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Working with specialist equipment such as CNC Saw, Drilling & Plasma Equipment.
  • Make sure Risk Assessments are carried out individually and departmentally.
  • Ensure that Heath, Safety and Environment requirements are adhered to.
  • Ensuring there is continuous cover of machinery and equipment in case of breakdowns.

Site Engineer

The Site Engineer is responsible for ensuring the successful handover of structural steelwork. This includes ensuring the plumb, line and level of the steelwork complies with the contracted tolerance and issuing of the handover certificate. The Site Engineer will also be involved with some of the turn key projects which BHC undertake, this will include the engineer starting with a gen field site and working with all trades on site to the stage of handover to the client. The Site Engineer will be responsible for all works during this time, delivering as build drawings for all their setting out during this time.

As part of the role the Site Engineer is expected to carry out the following:

  • As built Bolt Surveys
  • Cast in Plate Surveys
  • As built Steel Surveys
  • Plumb and Lining of steel
  • Casting of bolts “Dead” (no cones)
  • Setting Out
  • TOPO Surveys
  • Work on their own and through their own work load.

The Engineer must be competent in the use of Total Stations for both surveying and setting out. In particular, experience with Leica robotic total station is advantageous.

The successful candidate will be able to take survey data and complete as built surveys using CAD.

An element of manual work such as below is expected:

  • Plumbing of steel by tightening bolts.
  • Moving steel into position using heavy hammer and wedges.
  • Setting of Bolts.

The Engineer must be conscientious, hard working and driven.

Site Engineers at BHC are responsible for several jobs at any given time and are expected to be able to travel between them, therefore a driving licence is essential. In addition to this you will also need require a current CSCS card. Please note that depending on the locations of Projects working away from home may be required.

Experience in the use of total stations for setting out and surveying is essential although not necessarily with a Leica Robotic Instrument. An Engineer with a sound fundamental understanding of setting out and surveying will quickly be able to adapt to using any instrument. A basic knowledge of CAD will also be useful.

Steel Erectors

Work will be UK wide with staying away duties included. The applicant needs to have a good head for heights and be physically fit, the works will be mainly external conditions.

CSCS cards will be an advantage.

Graduate/Trainee Quantity Surveyors

We are seeking Graduate Quantity Surveyors to work in our Surveying Department.

An element of training will be required using software and systems, the final role will include and require

  • Manage all costs relating to projects including reporting
  • Assisting estimating where reqd.
  • Reviewing contracts and preparing contract documents.
  • Understanding and knowledge of types of contracts and conditions
  • Sub contract ordering
  • Preparing interim valuations / final accounts

Graduate Quantity Surveyor Essential Knowledge:

  • Proficient use and knowledge of software such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Project
  • Educated to degree level as Quantity Surveyor Preferred. HND level Considered.

Site Manager

Due to continuous expansion, we are seeking a Site Manager to work on up and coming project throughout the UK. The Site Manager will report directly to the Project Manager on all matters relating to the day to day running of the site.

Your key activities will include but not limited to: –

  • Ensuring that the project target dates and critical path are maintained.
  • Effectively monitoring and controlling work flows, staff resources, plant, material & call off schedules.
  • Take ownership of agreed construction programmes at pre-start meetings and assist the Project Manager in accepting and checking the full construction package information being handed by Quantity Surveyors / Design Manager / Project Managers / Senior Management Team.
  • Timely production of accurate reports on progress for circulation to clients and internal teams as and when required.
  • Liaise and communicate with other contractors on appropriate issues to ensure a consistency with communication and the speedy resolution of any issues.
  • Responsible accurate record keeping of quality control documents and ensure that additional works are requested in a timely manner and agreed with the client. Ensuring site based prelims are kept to a minimum.
  • Management of sub-contractors so as to maximise contract performance against KPI’s, minimise default notices and penalties and to ensure high levels of customer service.
  • Monitor Health & Safety and amend/comile all necessary documentation.
  • Great leadership, time management and communication skills, as well as the ability to motivate a team.

Your qualifications and experiences should be: –

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing projects
  • Significant experience over a range of engineering topics. Ideally to include construction management experience.
  • CSCS Card at Site Manager Level.
  • Valid First Aid at Work Certificate.
  • Valid SMSTS Training Certificate.

Good IT skills with all Microsoft packages and able to pick up new software quickly.

Mobile Crane Driver

We currently have a permanent position for a mobile crane driver, preferably we will be looking for the candidate to have the following:

  • CPCS Mobile Crane

Construction Programmer/ Planner

We currently have a vacancy for an experienced Construction Programmer/Planner to centralise all of the company’s project & labour plans.

Duties of the Programmer include:

  • Develop Construction/Tender Programs.
  • Conduct site visits and look through the works and drawings when required.
  • Review contractor schedules and schedule risk analysis.
  • Produce progress/program reports in conjunction with Project & Construction Managers.

Requirements of the role:

  • Operational experience together with previous significant experience of planning within the construction and steel industry.
  • Master programming – design, procurement, pre-commencement, construction, commissioning and production of design schedules.
  • Knowledge of project planning processes and the project life-cycle.
  • Knowledge of the procurement processes necessary for designing and building commercial projects.

Good IT skills with all Microsoft packages including Microsoft Projects or similar version and the ability to pick up new software quickly.

Trainee Estimator

Due to continuous expansion, the opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Estimator within our Estimating department (steel/construction).

There will be a mix of in house and external training provided to develop your skills which will include various software packages.

Estimators form an integral part of the commercial team and their role is often wide and varied as each project often holds a different challenge.

Duties of the Trainee Estimator include: – 

  • Review drawings, specifications and determine any unusual requirements that may apply to the project or sub contract items that may form part of the required scope.
  • Co-ordination of various sub-contract packages if applicable.
  • Discussion with client pre-tender where required.
  • Prepare a schedule of quantities or ‘Take Off’ for the steelwork, allocating material and labour costs specific to a particular project.
  • The ability to interpret the information received and communicate with the clients or colleagues is paramount.
  • On contract award relay relevant information such as contract information including specifications, cost build-ups, programme, potential risks and contractual issues to our internal team responsible for constructing the project.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Preferably the successful applicant will be educated to degree/HNC/HND level in a construction based subject.
  • Ideally will have experience using AutoCAD software and experience using BIM.
  • Individuals are required to be self-motivated, determined and have strong mathematical capabilities.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good IT skills with all Microsoft packages and the ability to pick up new software quickly.

Main Contract / Civils Estimator

BHC are an established contractor who have various divisions within their Company Group.

Our long established Main Contract works division successfully uses the varied in-house resources of the group to offer clients a single point of contact for their project requirements whether it be traditional contracting, design and build or full turn key developments.

Due to continuous expansion we are seeking an Estimator with a Civils/Building background to join our Main Contract estimating team.

Your Key Activities will include but not limited to: –

  • Responsible for the preparation and subsequent negotiation of Tender submissions for Civil/Building projects.
  • Examine incoming tenders and review contract potential.
  • Measuring & ‘Quantity Take-Off’ from drawings.
  • Producing Bills of Quantities.
  • Sourcing pre-project information and analysing sub-contractor quotations, agreements & enquiries.
  • Build up tender price from first principles based on the scope of works, plans, specification & programme.
  • Cost planning.
  • Produce tender report in preparation for tender adjudication.
  • Attend pre & post contract interviews, client meetings etc.
  • Collect and distribution of feedback.
  • Investigate cost effective and/or alternative solutions.
  • Input data entry onto estimating software.
  • Comply with BHC Ltd procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of latest techniques.
  • Carry out other relevant duties as required from time to time.

Required Experience:-

Your qualifications and experience should be:

  • Ideally with 5 years or more of proven estimating experience with large Civils or Main Contract Companies.
  • An HNC or degree in Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering. Not critical for an experienced estimator.
  • Experienced with various Forms of Contract, such as JCT and NEC, relevant Civils/Building works as well as various methods of measuring including SMM7 & NRM2.
  • Experience in Design & Build as well as other standard construction types of construction work.
  • A team player who is a confident communicator with all members of staff.
  • You must have excellent interpersonal skills; maintain good working relationships with colleagues, clients and suppliers and have a personable character.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to adhere to strict deadlines on a daily & weekly basis.
  • Microsoft Office proficient.
  • Ideally with experience in the use Microsoft Project or other project programming software.
  • Estimating software experience preferably Causeway.
  • Site experience advantageous.

Project Manager
