Steel Erectors

Due to our continued expansion we are currently looking to recruit Steel Erectors and would also consider recruiting complete squads.

Main duties will include but not limited to:

  • Assembly and erecting of steel work.
  • Working as part of a team to deliver projects to a high standard, within budget and within the time frame specified by the client.
  • Delivering the installation to meet the H&S requirements and programme of work.
  • Identifying changes to the works specifications and reporting to the site supervisor.
  • The ability to read and understand technical drawings and work within the specification.
  • Site measuring, setting out and working to levels.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

Necessary requirements:

  • CSCS Card.
  • Experience of working at heights.
  • Experience of steel erecting.

Work will be UK wide with staying away duties included.

Maintenance Manager

We have an opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to join the company to ensure efficient running and effective management for the day to day running of the CNC and process equipment within our Manufacturing Facility.

You will be responsible for:-

  • Leading the site maintenance function in providing a reactive and proactive, multi-skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment and facilities infrastructure.
  • Increase the site operational effectiveness, improve on project delivery, improve time between failure and downtime reduction, manage and implement improvement plans, driving Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to.
  • Ensuring that the facilities, layout and machinery used to produce new and existing materials and goods run to their maximum efficiency and output.
  • Total preventative maintenance, managing breakdowns of mechanical, electrical and robotic equipment (including software programming).

You will report to the Production & Works Manager.

Duties include but are not limited to:-

  • Effectively delegate any maintenance issues to be resolved on each shift and small projects to the right skills in the team, planning and managing effective works.
  • Develop a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule, ensure full preventative maintenance is carried out, plan in missed maintenance activities, and lead the team to deliver effectively.
  • Ensure routine calibration and maintenance requirements of a variety of electro-mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems are undertaken.
  • Assist where required, the introduction of new machinery, plant and equipment from drawing up the specification, to managing suppliers through to full installation in collaboration with all relevant parties.
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems.
  • Arranging specialist procurement of fixtures, fittings or components.
  • Controlling maintenance tools, stores and equipment and ensuring accurate stock records maintained.
  • Identify and deploy the technical skills sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects, including the engagement of external resources as required.
  • Develop, implement and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility.
  • Ensure KPIs are met by working to the overall plan, including management of, and reporting.
  • Manage, coach and develop a high performing Maintenance Team that meets agreed objectives, and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance.
  • Support, comply and ensure complicity with Health & Safety regulations, the Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other company policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring and controlling maintenance costs.
  • Make sure risk assessments are carried out individually and departmentally.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent leadership and man management skills.
  • An ability to work well under pressure as well as demonstrating excellent organisation skills at all times.
  • Competent in problem solving, team building, planning and decision making.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills along with a hands-on approach attitude.

Qualifications and Experience levels:

  • Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree is preferred, or HND, BTec Professional Level 5 Award or equivalent NVQ Level 5.
  • Extensive plant level experience with significant proven man management experience.
  • Completed a fully indentured apprenticeship with a mechanical/ electrical / electronic discipline.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and procurement/ supply chain.
  • Understanding of TS16949, IOSH/NEBOSH, ISO 14001.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Previous experience working with specialist equipment, such as CNC Saw, Drilling & Plasma Equipment.
  • Working at heights / IPAF license.
  • Overhead crane experience is essential.

Agricultural/Industrial Buildings Estimator

Our long-established Agricultural works division successfully uses the varied in-house resources of the group to offer clients a single point of contact for their project requirements whether it be traditional contracting, design and build or full turn key developments.

We are seeking an experienced Estimator with an Agricultural building background to join our Estimating team.

Your key activities will include but not will not be limited to:-

  • Prepare quotations and submissions.
  • Measuring & ‘Quantity Take-Off’ from drawings/sketches.
  • Produce Bills of Quantities.
  • Source pre-project information and analyse sub-contractor quotations, agreement & enquiries.
  • Attend site visits to understand scope of works and client requirements.
  • Attend estimate review meetings with Senior Managers.
  • Attend pre & post contract client meetings etc.
  • Investigate cost effective and/or alternative solutions.
  • Input data entry onto estimating software.
  • Develop knowledge and learn about latest techniques.
  • Carry out other relevant duties as required from time to time.

Required Experience

Your Qualifications and Experience should be:

  • Ideally with 5 years or more of proven agricultural estimating experience.
  • A team player who is a confident communicator with all members of staff.
  • You must have excellent interpersonal skills; maintain good working relationships with colleagues, clients, and suppliers and have a personable character.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to adhere to strict deadlines on a daily & weekly basis.
  • Microsoft office proficient.
  • Site experience is advantageous.

Graduate/ Trainee Quantity Surveyors

Due to continuous expansion we are seeking Graduate Quantity Surveyors to work in our Surveying department.

An element of training will be required using software and systems, the final role will include and require you to:

Trainee Counter Assistant

We currently have a Full-time vacancy for a Trainee Counter Assistant at BHC Builders Merchants based in Carnwath.

The role of Trainee Counter Assistant involves:-

  • Serving customers at the shop counter.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of vehicles – manual handling where required.

Construction Programmer/ Planner

We currently have a vacancy for an experienced Construction Programmer/Planner to centralise all of the company’s project & labour plans.

Duties of the Programmer include:

  • Develop Construction/Tender Programs.
  • Conduct site visits and look through the works and drawings when required.
  • Review contractor schedules and schedule risk analysis.
  • Produce progress/program reports in conjunction with Project & Construction Managers.

Requirements of the role:

  • Operational experience together with previous significant experience of planning within the construction and steel industry.
  • Master programming – design, procurement, pre-commencement, construction, commissioning and production of design schedules.
  • Knowledge of project planning processes and the project life-cycle.
  • Knowledge of the procurement processes necessary for designing and building commercial projects.

Good IT skills with all Microsoft packages including Microsoft Projects or similar version and the ability to pick up new software quickly.
