Graduate/ Trainee Quantity Surveyors

Due to continuous expansion we are seeking Graduate Quantity Surveyors to work in our Surveying department.

An element of training will be required using software and systems, the final role will include and require you to:

  • Manage all costs relating to projects including reporting.
  • Assisting estimating where required.
  • Reviewing contracts and preparing contract documents.
  • Understanding and knowledge of types of contracts and conditions.
  • Sub contract ordering.
  • Preparing interim valuations/final account.

Trainee Counter Assistant

We currently have a Full-time vacancy for a Trainee Counter Assistant at BHC Builders Merchants based in Carnwath.

The role of Trainee Counter Assistant involves:-

  • Serving customers at the shop counter.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of vehicles – manual handling where required.
  • Stock Control / Merchandising.
  • Customer focused, polite and have a friendly manner.
  • Good communication skills and a hard-working team player.
  • Computer literate and telephone sales experience preferred.
  • Experience within a builders merchant with knowledge of timer and building products would be an advantage but not essential.

Assistant Material Controller

As a market leader in Structural Steelwork design and production, the business continues to grow and an exciting new role has arisen for an Assistant Material Controller to join our growing business.

Basic duties of the role will include assisting the Production Material Controller with the below:-

  • Booking in material and dealing with associated admin.
  • Allocating material in line with production demands and material availability.
  • Controlling stock and assisting with stock takes.
  • Liaising with the purchasing department for material orders.
  • Working to production targets.
  • Organising material deliveries with suppliers and internal departments.
  • Maintaining accurate information on the company’s system, through ensuring accurate recording of quantities, part identification and part location.
  • Ensuring Training Matrix is up to date for all production operatives.

To be successful in the role you must:

  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills required.
  • Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Ability to efficiently organise, plan and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to interact in a team environment.
  • Structural steel background would be an advantage but not essential.
  • IT Literate.

Structural Steel Loading Operative

Main Responsibilities:

  • To review load sheets for structural steel loads, ensuring that each load is set out in a stable manner, working to BHC Loading Procedures.
  • To operate overhead cranes for the positioning of materials whilst building the load.
  • To ensure that all materials are secured as per BHC Loading Procedures prior to the lifting of loads on to trailers for transportation.
  • To ensure safe loading methods are adhered to with consideration given to the unloading of materials on site.
  • To ensure that the loading operation does not compromise the product quality.
  • To adhere to work schedules for priority loadings as issued by the loading Manager / Supervisor.
  • To maintain an acceptable standard of cleanliness / housekeeping within the loading bay at all times.
  • To communicate effectively and maintain working relationships with all colleagues and Sub Transport Contractors.

Knowledge and Experience

  • A working experience with structural steel would be advantageous for this role.
  • Experience in the use of Overhead Cranes/telehandlers would be advantageous.
  • The job requires an individual who can work as part of a team or on their own, meeting targets and deadlines as set by the loading management team.
  • Full training will be provided.

Platers

We currently have a vacancy for Platers within our fabrication facility.

The desired personnel will have the following experience:

  • Experience in a Structural Steel environment.
  • Have a clear understanding of detailed drawings.
  • Be able to work in a team and in a timeous manner.
  • Mig/Mag welding experience is essential.

Industrial Paint Sprayer

Due to continuous expansion we are looking for a skilled and experienced Industrial Paint Sprayer to prepare and coat structural steel components.

Duties will include:

  • Paint spraying using two pack and/or Intumescent application on heavy industrial steel components.
  • Spraying using airless pressure king pumps and hand application to a high quality standard.

Requirement of the role:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Industrial Paint Spraying.
  • Candidates should have experience in quality checks such as DFT/WFT and surface preparation.
  • A working experience of spray and hand application of primer / Intumescent coatings processes and operations for structural steel would be an advantage for this role.
  • Must have a good work ethic, be reliable and flexible.
  • Can work independently or in a team.

Maintenance Engineer

We have an opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to join the company to assist with the efficient and effective day to day running of the Manufacturing Facility.

You will be responsible for:-

  • Ensuring that the facilities , layout and machinery used to produce new and existing materials and goods run to their maximum efficiency and output.
  • Total preventative maintenance, managing breakdowns of mechanical, electrical and robotic equipment (including software programming).
  • People management and budgetary/cost reporting.

Duties include but are not limited to:-

  • Arranging specialist procurement of fixtures, fittings or components.
  • Controlling maintenance tools, stores and equipment.
  • Monitoring and controlling maintenance costs
  • Dealing with emergencies, unplanned problems and repairs.
  • Improving health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Working with specialist equipment such as CNC Saw, Drilling & Plasma Equipment.
  • Make sure Risk Assessments are carried out individually and departmentally.
  • Ensure that Heath, Safety and Environment requirements are adhered to.
  • Ensuring there is continuous cover of machinery and equipment in case of breakdowns.
  • Working at heights/ IPAF license
  • Electrical qualifications (mechanical desired)
  • A knowledge of LOLER Regulations
  • Overhead crane experience is essential.

Steel Erectors

Due to our continued expansion we currently are looking to recruit Steel Erectors.

Main duties will include but not be limited to;

  • Assembly and erecting of steelwork.
  • Working as part of a team to deliver projects to a high standard, within budget and within the time frame specified by the client.
  • Delivering the installation to meet the H&S requirements and programme of work.
  • Identifying changes to the works specifications and reporting to the site supervisor.
  • The ability to read and understand technical drawings and work within the specification.
  • Site measuring, setting out and working to levels.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

Necessary requirements;

  • CSCS Card.
  • Experience of working at heights.

Construction Programmer/ Planner

We currently have a vacancy for an experienced Construction Programmer/Planner to centralise all of the company’s project & labour plans.

Duties of the Programmer include:

  • Develop Construction/Tender Programs.
  • Conduct site visits and look through the works and drawings when required.
  • Review contractor schedules and schedule risk analysis.
  • Produce progress/program reports in conjunction with Project & Construction Managers.

Requirements of the role:

  • Operational experience together with previous significant experience of planning within the construction and steel industry.
  • Master programming – design, procurement, pre-commencement, construction, commissioning and production of design schedules.
  • Knowledge of project planning processes and the project life-cycle.
  • Knowledge of the procurement processes necessary for designing and building commercial projects.

Good IT skills with all Microsoft packages including Microsoft Projects or similar version and the ability to pick up new software quickly.
