Main duties will include but not limited to:

  • Assembly and erecting of steel work.

  • Delivering the installation to meet the H&S requirements and programme of work.
  • Identifying changes to the works specifications and reporting to the site supervisor.
  • The ability to read and understand technical drawing and work within the specification.
  • Site measuring, setting out and working levels.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

Necessary requirements:

  • CSCS Card.
  • Experience of working at heights.
  • Experience of steel erecting.

Work will be UK wide with staying away duties included.

Job Opportunity: Maintenance Manager

BHC is one of the UK’s leading Structural Steel Fabrication and Construction companies supplying and erecting fabricated steel nationwide within the UK and Ireland.

We have an opportunity for a Maintenance Manager to join the company to ensure efficient running and effective management for the day-to-day running of the CNC and process equipment within our Manufacturing Facility.

You will be responsible for:-

  • Leading the site Maintenance function in providing both a reactive and proactive, multi-skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment and facilities infrastructure.
  • Increase the site operational effectiveness, improve on project delivery, improve time between failure and downtime reduction, manage and implement improvement plans, driving Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to.
  • Ensuring that the facilities, layout and machinery used to produce new and existing materials and goods run to their maximum efficiency and output.
  • Total preventative maintenance, managing breakdowns of mechanical, electrical and robotic equipment (including software programming).

You will report to the Production & Works Manager.

Duties include but are not limited to:-

  • Effectively delegate any maintenance issues to be resolved on each shift and small projects to the right skills in the team, planning and managing effective works.
  • Develop a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule, ensure full preventative maintenance is carried out, plan in missed maintenance activities, and lead the team to deliver effectively.
  • Ensure routine calibration and maintenance requirements of a variety of electro-mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems are undertaken.
  • Assist where required, the introduction of new machinery, plant and equipment from drawing up the specification, to managing suppliers through to full installation in collaboration with all relevant parties.
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problem.
  • Arranging specialist procurement of fixtures, fittings or components.
  • Controlling maintenance tools, stores and equipment and ensuring accurate stock records maintained.
  • Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects, including the engagement of external resources as required.
  • Develop, implement and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility.
  • Ensure KPIs are met by working to the overall plan, including management of, and reporting.
  • Manage, coach and develop a high performing Maintenance Team that meets agreed objectives, and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance.
  • Support, comply and ensure complicity with Health & Safety regulations, the Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other Company policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring and controlling maintenance costs.
  • Make sure risk assessments are carried out individually and departmentally.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent leadership and man management skills.
  • An ability to work well under pressure as well as demonstrating excellent organisation skills at all times.
  • Competent in problem solving, team building, planning and decision making.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills along with a hands-on approach attitude.

Qualifications and Experience Levels:

  • Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree is preferred, or HND, BTec Professional Level 5 Award or equivalent NVQ Level 5 qualification.
  • Extensive plant level experience with significant proven man management experience.
  • Completed a fully indentured apprenticeship with a mechanical/ electrical / electronic discipline.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and procurement/ supply chain.
  • Understanding of TS1649, IOSH/NEBOSH, ISO 14001.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Previous experience working with specialist equipment, such as CNC Saw, Drilling & Plasma Equipment.
  • Working at heights / IPAF license.
  • A knowledge of LOLER regulations.
  • Overhead crane experience is essential.

Shift working and overtime as required.

We are seeking an experienced Estimator with an Agricultural building background to join our Estimating team.

Your Key Activities will include but not limited to:-

  • Prepare quotations and submissions.
  • Measuring & ‘Quantity Take-Off’ from drawings/sketches.
  • Produce Bills of Quantities.
  • Source pre-project information and analyse sub-contractor quotations, agreements & enquiries.
  • Attend site visits to understand scope of works and client requirements.
  • Attend estimate review meeting with Senior Managers.
  • Attend pre & post contract client meetings etc.
  • Investigate cost effective and/or alternative solutions.
  • Input data entry onto estimating software.
  • Develop knowledge and learn about the latest techniques.
  • Carry out other relevant duties as required from time to time.

Required Experience

Your Qualifications and Experience should be:

  • Ideally with 5 years or more proven agricultural estimating experience.
  • A team player who is a confident communicator with all members of staff.
  • You must have excellent interpersonal skills; maintain good working relationships with colleagues, clients, and supplies and have a personable character.

Duties of the Construction Administrator include:

  • Scheduling resources for sites including labour and plant ensuring current certification is in place.
  • Responsible for the allocation of plant on all sites including hire and off hire of all hired plant.
  • Responsible for maintaining the holiday planner scheduling holiday requests for sites operatives ensuring sufficient cover.
  • Arrange accommodation and travel for site teams working away.
  • Assist with the scheduling of materials for site delivery.
  • Collate all site documents for review, including time sheets, work records, check sheets, expenses, receipts and KPI’s.
  • Liaise with Project Managers and Suppliers regarding site requirements.

Requirements of the role:

  • Good communication skills, ability to work on your own or as part of a team.
  • Computer literate, conversant with all Microsoft packages and able to learn new software in a timeous fashion.
  • Graduate in Project & Construction Management is preferable.

Job Opportunity – Structural Steel Loading Operative – Vacancy Fulfilled

Structural Steel Loading Operative

Main Responsibilities:

  • To review load sheets for structural steel loads, ensuring that each load is set out in a stable manner, working to BHC Loading Procedures.
  • To operate overhead cranes for the positioning of materials whilst building the load.
  • To ensure that all materials are secured as per BHC Loading Procedures prior to the lifting of loads on to trailers for transportation.
  • To ensure that the loading operation does not compromise the product quality.
  • To adhere to work schedules for priority loadings as issued by the loading Manager/Supervisor.
  • To maintain an acceptable standard of cleanliness / housekeeping within the loading bay at all times.
  • To communicate effectively and maintain working relationships with all colleagues and Sub Transport Contractors.

Knowledge and Experience

  • A working experience with structural steel would be advantageous for this role.
  • Experience in the use of Overhead Cranes / Telehandlers would be advantageous.
  • The job requires an individual who can work as part of a team or on their own, meeting targets and deadlines as set by the loading management team.
  • Full training will be provided.

2018 Apprentices

2018 Apprentices

BHC would like to thank everyone that made the effort to attend our Apprenticeship Open Day in June.

Following the success of the day, we have hired 17 apprentices for our manufacturing workshop. The group included Apprentice CNC Operatives, Fabricator Welders, Industrial Spray Painters and Platers.

The apprenticeship is a modular based training course that is completed within the workplace. The modules will be used to guide the apprentices through the various aspects of the role e.g. the Fabricator Welders will gain experience in the role of marking, cutting and assembling steel components with the assistance of those who have the skills and experience to guide them.

On completion of the apprenticeship, employees will be awarded the BCSA CRAFT Apprenticeship.
