Learning and Teaching Hub University of Glasgow

The University of Glasgow have shared a video which takes a look inside the new £90.6 million James McCune Smith Learning & Teaching Hub.

Main Contractor, Multiplex began onsite at the end of October 2017, with BHC starting the structural steelwork contract early Summer 2018.

BHC’s involvement in the construction of the flagship development, with the capacity to accommodate 2,500 students, involved the supply, fabrication and erection of over 980 tonnes of structural steelwork and the installation of 5,387 mof trapezoidal metal decking.

The state-of-the-art hub will provide and inspirational and diverse learning space for both Undergraduate and Post Graduate students. The Learning and Teaching Hub includes lecture theatres, interactive teaching spaces, group study spaces and a cafe.

Richard Struthers, BHC’s HSQE Manager, recently visited the University of Glasgow to deliver a presentation to a group of Civil Engineering students regarding our involvement in the Steelwork fabrication and development of the new Learning and Teaching Hub on University Avenue.

BHC were successfully appointed by Multiplex as the steelwork sub-contractor for the new development. We will be fabricating and erecting over 980 tonnes of hot rolled steelwork and installing 5,387 square metres of metal decking.

The £90.6 million Learning and Teaching Hub will provide state-of-the-art learning and teaching facilities to the students of the University of Glasgow.

The hub can accommodate over 2,500 students and includes lecture halls, interactive teaching spaces, group study spaces and a cafe.

Elgin High School Opens it Doors

Elgin High School

The new £30 million Elgin High School has opened its door to pupils. 

The high-tech campus replaced the existing building and includes a state-of-the-art fitness suite, auditorium and library.

Main Contractor Balfour Beatty appointed BHC as the steelwork sub-contractor for the new teaching and sports facility. Over a three month period, BHC erected over 750 tonnes of steelwork to form the High School, which will cater for 1,000 pupils.
