4th Year Apprentices visit ESJ

Last week a group of BHC’s 4th Year Apprentices got the exciting opportunity to tour the 1.7 million sq ft Edinburgh St James site.

Over 20 BHC apprentices are involved in the fabrication of the 15,000 tonnes of steelwork required for the project.

BHC offers the British Constructional Steelwork Association’s 4-year CRAFT apprenticeship. The scheme has been developed and designed by the industry for the industry with apprentices learning through module-based training.

Hounslow High Street Transformation Continues

Hounslow High Street Quarter

The transformation of Hounslow High Street Quarter continues to make progress. 

The development will transform the centre of Hounslow with the addition of a 10-screen Cineworld Cinema and 134,000 sq ft of commercial space to form retail units and restaurants.

BHC were appointed by Barratt London as the structural steelwork sub-contractor where we will be fabricating and erecting over 3,200 pieces of steelwork – accumulating to over 1,300 tonnes of structural steelwork and over 5,000 m2  of metal decking.

AHMM Architects recently commissioned a photographer to capture the latest images from inside The Post Building.

BHC’s involvement in the 4,400 tonne project included the supply and erection of steel work including temporary work calculations, the installation and jacking of the existing structure, off site fire protection, the installation of 32,000 m2 metal decking and edge protection.

BHC continue to keep apace onsite at Edinburgh St James Centre.

Throughout our involvement in the 15,000 tonne project, over 20 apprentices will be involved in the fabricating process, gaining skills for life that benefit our business, clients and the local community.

BHC are currently onsite with main contractor Barratt London at the ambitious re-development of the Hounslow High Street Quarter. 

The development will create a major, new urban space within Hounslow and comprises of 528 new homes – with at least 40% being affordable homes, a multiplex cinema and several new shops and restaurants forming Hounslow’s new vibrant town centre.

BHC are involved in the supply, fabrication and erection of over 1,300 tonnes of structural steelwork and over 5,000m2 of metal decking which will form a 10 screen Cineworld Cinema and several commercial units.

The cinema and commercial units are set to open early 2020.

At the beginning of January, Main Contractor Laing O’Rourke sent up a drone to capture the latest progress on site.

The curved shape of the ‘galleria’ shopping street is now recognisable while the concrete core of the W Hotel can be spotted towering over the site.

BHC have been onsite at the re-development of the Edinburgh St James Centre for approximately six months. 

Throughout our Structural Steelwork contract we will be erecting almost 33,000 individual pieces of hot rolled steelwork to form the new shopping centre.

9% of Steelwork Erected at Edinburgh St James Centre

BHC continue to make significant progress onsite at Edinburgh St James Centre.

Between July and September this year BHC made significant progress on site at the redevelopment of the Edinburgh St James Centre. We erected 1,300 tonnes of structural steelwork, utilising only one tower crane and laying 11,000 square metres of structural metal decking.

This means BHC have now erected 9% of the project.

Throughout the duration of the project BHC will supply, fabricate and erect approximately 15,000 tonnes of steelwork over a period of two years.

The redevelopment of the Edinburgh St James Centre will transforms the city’s east end and will inject over £1 billion of investment into Scotland’s capital. The development will provide the city with a mix of well-known high street and high end brands catering to everyone from Edinburgh’s locals to tourists from all over the world. The 1.7 million square foot scheme comprises of 850,000 square foot of retail and leisure space including Edinburgh’s first Everyman Cinema, the iconic W Hotel with over 200 hotel rooms and 150 private residential apartments.

Dundee Waterfront is currently undergoing a £1 Billion transformation including the development of  Site 6.

BHC are involved with the supply and erection of the structural steelwork and metal decking for the 5,940 square metre site. Once complete the building will include a 150 hotel, 88 apartments and an open plan office, situated over four floors.

BHC confirmed as Structural Steel Contractor for £1 billion redevelopment of Edinburgh St James

BHC have been appointed by Laing O’Rourke as the Structural Steelwork Contractor for extensive redevelopment of the Edinburgh St James Centre.

BHC are delighted to announce our involvement in the major redevelopment of the Edinburgh St James Centre. BHC will be responsible for the supply, fabrication and erection of approximately 15,000 tonnes of structural steelwork over a period of two years.

The redevelopment of the Edinburgh St James Centre is one of the largest investments for Scotland. The 1.7 million sq ft development will see the former 1970’s shopping centre replaced with a 850,000 sq ft of retail space, anchored by John Lewis, a multi-screen cinema, the luxurious W Hotel comprising of over 200 rooms and 150 private residential apartments. The development will become the heart of the city, providing excellent connections to the existing retails areas of Princes Street, Multrees Walk and George Street.

Throughout the duration of the project BHC will employ approximately 20 apprentices.
