BHC Ltd were working along side main contractor Laing O’Rourke on this large-scale redevelopment of Soho Place situated in the centre of London.
This development comprises of a ten-storey building with both retail and office space, coupled with a nine-storey building split into three office floors above a 600 seated capacity theatre.
As structural steelwork subcontractor, BHC had supplied, fabricated and erected 2,587 tonnes of structural steelwork and installed 7,492m2 of metal decking across two buildings.
A 28-tonne transfer truss was installed between the basement and ground floor slab. This truss required assembly on-site and was manoeuvred into place between the slabs with the use of casters and trollies. Hydrocapsule jacks were used to transfer the upper slab loads on the truss and were monitored and adjusted during the upper structure erection before being locked and grouted into place.
Laing O’Rourke procured the bearing package, there were two types of bearing and two suppliers, CDM and CRL preloaded and spring bearings to isolate the auditorium from the underground.
BHC co-ordinated with Laing O’Rourke and their supply chain to deliver our package and align with the installation programme for the bearings. We installed the box girder ground beam, they installed the bearings, and we stellated the columns on top of the bearings.
