This project involved the supply and erection of a Data Centre for The Royal Bank of Scotland to match the existing facility on-site and included the erection of a 39-metre clear span curved portal roof with associated gantries and external plant areas.
This project was erected utilising the main contractor’s tower crane, our own in-house steel erection squads, metal decking squads, and mobile elevated working platforms. Erection was also augmented with our own mobile crane in the first phase, in order to progress the project in the most efficient fashion.
The steelwork frame was constructed directly from foundation level to suit programming requirements. The structural form comprises a vertically braced steel frame with composite concrete floor slabs supporting the office levels and plant rooftop. The main challenges of the site included the position of a number of buried constraints including tie rods, thrust blocks and quay walls. This was overcome by detailed pre-planning.
