BHC were awarded the contract to carry out the design and build of a new whisky maturation facility, consisting of 37Nr warehouses complete with all services, infrastructure, drainage, hard and soft landscaping works.
Similarly, to the phase 1 project delivered by BHC, the poor ground conditions meant that the entire footprint of the site was subject to an extensive stabilisation strategy, using lime and cement modification techniques. As the stabilisation works progressed, the ground was capped with a 300mm thick granular layer of stone, which provided not only a running surface for access roads, but also a piling mat to each building’s footprint to facilitate the piling works to commence thereafter.
Once completed, there will be over 10,000 pre-cast concrete driven piles on this project, making it one of the largest piling projects carried out within the UK that year.Structural Steelwork is due to commence and be completed over a 9-month period, whereby circa 4,500 tonnes of steelwork will be fabricated and painted off-site in BHC’s own factory-controlled environment, before being delivered and erected on-site.
Thereafter, external wall and roof cladding works, incorporating Siphonic drainage systems will encapsulate the steel frames to form the envelopes of the structures.Two-hour Eurobond Fire Master separation walls will be erected internally, to separate each individual warehouse.
Each warehouse will have approx. 2,000m2 of usable floor space for future palletised racking installation works to maximise the storage capacity of each unit. Overall, there will be 74,000m2 and 300mm thick fibre reinforced concrete floors poured.
