BHC Ltd were appointed as the Structural Steelwork, Metal Decking and Concrete Topping Contractors of the largest multi-modal biopharmaceutical manufacturing site in the UK for Fujifilm in Billingham, Teeside. Construction of the new campus commenced in March 2023 and will be fully operational by 2025. Borealis is a three-storey beam and column structure with composite floor slabs and roof deck. The structure ties into four precast concrete lift shafts with cast in connection plates that were designed by BHC.
Precast stairs supplied by Creagh were erected with the main structural steelwork and formed the access to the floor plates to commence metal decking stall. BHC supplied a progressive installing of steel, edge protection, metal decking, BHC riser protection and 190mm thick concrete slab.
BHC Riser openings were supplied as bespoke fabricated frames with GRP mesh inserts and durbar topping plates to form protection during construction & installation.
As part of the early engagement on the project BHC worked closely with the façade contractors to coordinate details for gutters, doors, plant and key interfaces that ensured the structural steel delivered was correct for the follow-on trades. BHC supplied and erected hot rolled steelwork and cold formed purlins for the project. The steelwork was erected using BHC’s in-house steel erecting squad.
