We are currently looking for a Trainee Yard Operative to join our busy Builders Merchant yard in Carnwath. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start a career in a hands-on, practical environment. You will receive full training while supporting the smooth running of the yard, assisting with materials handling, stock control, and customer service. This is a varied, fast-paced outdoor role where you will learn all aspects of yard operations, working as part of a supportive team and developing valuable skills for the future.
Key Responsibilities
· Support the loading and unloading of building materials for customers
· Assist customers with enquiries and direct them to the correct products or staff
· Learn how to pick and prepare customer orders accurately and efficiently
· Help receive, check, and store incoming deliveries
· Assist with preparing materials for dispatch, including labelling and packaging
· Receive training to operate forklifts, pallet trucks, and other yard equipment
· Carry out basic stock control and assist with inventory checks
· Help maintain a clean, organised, and safe yard environment
· Report damaged goods, shortages, or equipment faults to supervisors
Skills & Attributes
· No previous yard experience required – full training provided
· Willingness to learn and develop new practical skills
· Comfortable with manual handling and working outdoors in all weather conditions
· Good communication skills and a positive attitude
· Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious approach to work
· Ability to work well as part of a team
· Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow instructions
· Interest in building materials or construction (advantageous but not essential)
