Social Value Social Value

At BHC Ltd, we are deeply committed to creating social value within our local area by providing career opportunities, supporting local businesses, and engaging in community initiatives. Our investment in training ensures that we have a highly competent workforce prepared for the challenges of our specialised work environments. We are committed to contributing positively to the communities where we operate, supporting local economies, and upholding the highest standards in equality, diversity, ethical trading, and responsible sourcing.

Our approach to social value is built around four key pillars:

Recruitment

We actively collaborate with local schools and colleges to educate students about the diverse career paths available within our company. Starting from as young as S3 (13-14 years old), we introduce students to opportunities available within our company (on-site, workshop, and office-based careers). Helping individuals to make informed decisions when they are of school leaving age, offering clear paths for career progression. We are committed to continuous career development for our staff and ensuring they have access to informed decisions about their futures.

We also focus on developing local talent through our apprenticeship programme, with two intakes each year (winter and summer). To support this, we host an annual ‘Apprenticeship Open Day’ where prospective apprentices can learn about our apprenticeship through the BCSA, projects we work on, tour of our site, and gain insight into the working environment. This initiative ensures that local individuals are well-prepared to contribute to our workforce. On average (over the past 5 years) BHC Ltd employ eight apprentices annually investing circa £200,000 – £220,000 per apprentice for the duration of their apprenticeship.

Workforce Development

At BHC Ltd, we believe that our staff are our greatest asset. To ensure they continue to grow and excel in their roles, we actively involve our employees in Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This includes regular training sessions, workshops, and access to industry seminars and courses. By investing in our employees’ professional growth, we not only enhance their skills and knowledge but also ensure that our workforce remains competent, motivated, and capable of delivering high-quality work. This commitment to CPD fosters a culture of continuous improvement and empowers our staff to take on new challenges and advance their careers within the company.
We believe that engaging with our workforce is a priority in ensuring we provide a positive working environment, and we look to provide transparency to our employees through our quarterly newsletter and regular updates on our socials. BHC Ltd are committed to providing equal opportunities for all. We adopt fair working practices and ensure all employees feel valued, respected, and supported.

Community Involvement

BHC Ltd are dedicated to continuously exploring new ways to support and add value to our local community, beyond our business operations. We regularly participate in and sponsor local events, from gala days to agricultural shows. We are also collaborating with schools and colleges, attending career events, hosting site visits, sharing expertise, and offer career opportunities to our local community. By doing so, we maintain a strong presence in the community and contribute to its vibrancy.

Local Supplier Engagement

BHC Ltd is committed to supporting the local economy by prioritising local material and service suppliers. We actively seek to partner with businesses within the community, ensuring that a significant portion of our procurement is sourced locally. This not only strengthens local businesses but also helps to create jobs and opportunities, within the locality of our project sites which cover locations throughout the United Kingdom.
