The heaviest beam has arrived on site at the Edinburgh St James re-development.
Weighing in at 38.5 tonnes, the beam was lifted into place in the early hours of Wednesday 15th May, using a crane.
The crane is a Liebherr LTM11200 with maximum lift of 1,200 tonnes – the largest crane within Europe. It has a maximum jib length of 126m and a maximum boom of 100m. For this lift, our configuration was 40m main boom and 60m of jib, lifting 38.5 tonne to a 60m radius.
The Crane Lift arrived onsite at the beginning of May, causing a number of road closures around the development site, and will remain onsite for approximately three weeks whilst several heavy lifts take place.
Due to the gradient of Leith Street, we used two Mammoet self-propelled modular transporters to transport and set up the cranes position.
