This month BHC began erecting the steelwork which will form the centrepiece of the 1.7 million square foot Edinburgh St James Development.

The world-class hotel will have over 200 stylish guestrooms, 20 premium suites and 1 Extreme Wow Suite. Guests of the hotel will be able to enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the Capital from the rooftop terrace. Other facilities located within the ultra-modern hotel will include the W Lounge, restaurant, gym and spa.

The luxury 12 storey hotel was designed by Jestico + Whiles and features a winding bronze-coloured steel ‘ribbon’.

BHC have been involved in the planning and design of a Snow Making Plant kit build for Nevis Range.

The architectural department within BHC successfully achieved planning permission within a National Scenic Area.

The Snow Making Plant is situated 680m above sea level and consists of 13.5 tones of hot-rolled, 3 tonnes of cold-rolled, support steel for the snowmaking equipment and cladding.

BHC delivered the materials for the kit build to the base of the mountain, Nevis Range then utilised a helicopter to transport all materials to the site.

We currently have a vacancy for a Line Leader. Reporting directly to the Workshop Manager. The role will be to assist in improving the day to day production and skillset within the company.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist Foreman with the day to day smooth running of lines.
  • Provide supervisory cover when Foreman is off the lines.
  • Lead by example using BHC processes.
  • Help with Health and Safety issues, glasses, RPE, earplugs etc.
  • Assist Foreman with the organisation of production.
  • Provide suggestions to improve efficiency and benefit all area of production.
  • Provide feedback on all aspects of workshop activity.
  • Monitor and promote good housekeeping practices.
  • Assist with internal audits when required.
  • Assist with integrating new employees into the company.
  • Be able to communicate effectively with both employees and management.
  • Be able to work and set out work on own initiative.

BHC are thrilled to be working with Laing O’Rourke as the Steelwork Sub Contractor on a large scale regeneration project on Oxford Street, London.

Soho Place, formerly known as 1 Oxford Street, is a mixed-use development in London. Two buildings form the scheme which consists of 209,000 sq ft of office space, 36,000 sq ft of retail space and 40,000 sq ft theatre.

No 1. Soho Place combines the traditional retail development of Oxford Street with a revitalised transport interchange on Charing Cross Road. The building has two basement levels, ground level, nine upper floors and a tenth-floor roof terrace offering stunning panoramic views across the city of London.

No 2. Soho Place is a unique nine-storey theatre and office development. The development will be the West Ends first new-build theatre in over 50 years. The three floors of office above the theatre achieve over 3.5m clear floor to ceiling heights and 16m column-free spans offering 270-degree views of the city.

The contract involves the supply, fabrication and erection of 2,587 tonnes of structural steelwork and the installation of 7,492mof metal decking.

BHC are delighted to announce our involvement in the construction of Buchanan Wharf Buildings One and Two.

As the structural steelwork contractor for McLaughlin & Harvey, BHC will be providing over 4,000 tonnes of structural steelwork across two buildings.

In addition, BHC will be installing 31,673mof metal decking topped with 4,320mof concrete reinforced with 309 tonnes of reinforcement.

Buchanan Wharf is a city centre regeneration project situated on the banks of the River Clyde. The total development includes three buildings totalling over 470,000 square feet of Grade A Office Space, Residential Accommodation and a mix of local amenities including cafes, a creche and landscaped public spaces.

Buchanan Wharf is the last remaining riverfront site within the City of Glasgow and will blend modern living with dynamic workplaces.

Welders & Platers

Job Opportunity – Welders & Platers

Welders & Platers

BHC is one of the UK’s leading Structural Steel Fabrication and Construction companies supplying and erecting steel nationwide within the UK and Ireland.

Due to continuous expansion we are looking for experienced Welders and Platers to join our team at our Workshop in Carnwath.

Duties will include: –

  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Measuring and marking out plates and sections for cutting, shaping and drilling.
  • Tacking welding fabricated parts together.

Requirements of the role:-

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as Industrial Welder/Plater.
  • Must be alert to the safety risks of using welding machinery, cutting tools and lifting/moving heavy sheets of metal.
  • Mig/Mag welding experience essential.
  • Have a clear understanding of detailed drawings.

Due to continuous expansion we are looking for a skilled and experienced Industrial Paint Sprayer to prepare and coat structural steel components.

Duties will include:- 

  • Paint spraying using two pack/or Intumescent application on heavy industrial steel components.
  • Spraying using airless pressure king pumps and hand application to a high quality standard.

Requirement of the role:-

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Industrial Paint Spraying.
  • Candidates should have experience in quality checks such as DFT / WFT and surface preparation.
  • A working experience of spray and hand application of primer/Intumescent coatings processes and operations for structural steel would be an advantage for this role.
  • Must have a good work ethic, be reliable and flexible.
  • Can work independently or in a team.
