We are currently seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our Team.

The final role will include and require you to:

  • Manage all costs relating to projects including reporting.
  • Assisting estimating where required.
  • Reviewing contracts and preparing contract documents.
  • Understanding and knowledge of types of contracts and conditions.
  • Sub-contract ordering.
  • Preparing interim valuations / final accounts.

Quantity Surveyor Essential Knowledge:

  • Proficient use and knowledge of software such as MS Work, Excel, Outlook and Project.
  • Educated to degree level as Quantity Surveyor.

Quantity Surveyor Essential Skills:

  • Well-developed client facing skills with a client orientated approach.
  • Commercially astute.

Hounslow High Street Transformation Continues

The transformation of Hounslow High Street Quarter continues to make progress. 

The development will transform the centre of Hounslow with the addition of a 10-screen Cineworld Cinema and 134,000 sq ft of commercial space to form retail units and restaurants.

BHC were appointed by Barratt London as the structural steelwork sub-contractor where we will be fabricating and erecting over 3,200 pieces of steelwork – accumulating to over 1,300 tonnes of structural steelwork and over 5,000 m2  of metal decking.

Trade Counter Assistant

Job Opportunity – Trade Counter Assistant – Vacancy Fulfilled

We currently have a vacancy for a Trade Counter Sales Person at our Builders Merchant based in Carnwath.

Duties will include:

  • Serving customers and building strong relationships
  • Inbound and outbound calls to clients to generate business
  • Providing customers with quotations and advice
  • Using your initiative to generate sales through customer contacts
  • Effectively working in a team and solely when the need arises
  • Stock control/ Merchandising in showroom

The successful candidate will have:

We currently have a full-time vacancy for a Yard Assistant at BHC Builders Merchants, based in Carnwath.

Duties will include:

  • Loading and unloading delivery vehicles by hand or with a forklift truck
  • Organising stock into correct storage areas
  • Accurately picking and checking orders
  • Maintaining neat and organised storage/ yard areas
  • Assisting customers as required
  • Providing excellent customer service at all times
  • Maintaining a tidy and safe working environment

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience within a builders merchant in a similar role
  • A Counterbalance Forklift is essential
  • A confident approach with excellent communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and polite manner
  • Product knowledge of all materials within a builders merchant

Site Engineer Small

Job Opportunity – Site Engineer

Site Engineer

BHC is one of the UK’s leading Structural Steel Fabrication and Construction companies supplying and erecting steel nationwide.

Due to expansion we currently have a vacancy for a Site Engineer.

The Site Engineer is responsible for ensuring the successful handover of all structural steelwork. This includes ensuring the plumb, line and level of the steelwork complies with the contracted tolerance and issuing of the handover certificate.

The Site Engineer will also be involved with some of the Turn Key projects which BHC undertake, this will include the Engineer starting with a green field site and working with all trades on site to the stage of handover to the client. The Site Engineer will be responsible for all works during this time, delivering as built drawings for all of their setting out during this time.

As part of the role the Site Engineer is expected to carry out the following:

  • As built Bolt surveys
  • Cast in Plate surveys
  • As built steel surveys
  • Plumb and Lining of steel
  • Casting of bolts “Dead” (no cones)
  • Setting Out
  • TOPO surveys
  • Work on their own and through their own work load.

The Engineer must be competent in the use of Total Stations for both surveying and setting out. In particular, experience with Leica robotic total station is advantageous.

The successful candidate will be able to take survey data and complete as built surveys in CAD.

An element of manual work such as below is expected:

  • Plumbing of steel by tightening bolts.
  • Moving steel into position using heavy hammer and wedges.
  • Setting of Bolts.

The Engineer must be conscientious, hardworking and driven.

Site Engineers at BHC are responsible for several jobs at any given time are are expected to be able to travel between them, therefore a driving licence is essential. In addition to this you will also require a current CSCS card. Please note that depending on the locations of projects working away from home may be required.

Experience in the use of total stations for setting out and surveying is essential although not necessarily with a Leica Robotic Instrument. An Engineer with a sound fundamental understanding of setting out and surveying will quickly be able to adapt to using any instrument. A basic knowledge of CAD will also be useful.

Each year BHC hold our annual Apprentice Open Day in June with the aim of recruiting 10-15 first year apprentices.

BHC offers the British Constructional Steelwork Association’s 4 year apprenticeship program.

The Post Building

AHMM Architects recently commissioned a photographer to capture the latest images from inside The Post Building.

BHC’s involvement in the 4,400 tonne project included the supply and erection of steel work including temporary work calculations, the installation and jacking of the existing structure, off site fire protection, the installation of 32,000 m2 metal decking and edge protection.
