Accounts Assistant / Administrator

BHC is one of the UK’s leading Structural Steel Fabrication and Construction companies supplying and erecting fabricated steel nationwide within the UK and Ireland.

We currently have a vacancy for an Accounts Assistant / Administrator to support our busy Accounts department.

Basic duties of the role include:

  • Accurate and timely processing of sub contract pay certs, purchase invoices and supplier statements.
  • Completing purchase ledger tasks within issued deadlines.
  • Creating purchase orders within accounting system.
  • Preparation of nominal ledger journals, miscellaneous receipts and payments.
  • Preparing Ad-Hoc invoices and reports for weighbridge activity along with recording vehicle information upon entering/exiting our site.
  • CIS submissions to HMRC.
  • Liaise with suppliers, sub-contractors and internal departments.
  • Dealing with employee accommodation, travel and expenses.
  • Administration of company fuel cards and fuel reports.
  • Cross support other team members with a view to meeting deadlines.

Essential skills and experience required:

  • Must have a minimum of 1 years experience working within an Accounts/Finance department.
  • Computer literate including MS Office packages.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable/ general ledger procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience of month end procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must have a strong ability to manage their own workload and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision and work within deadlines.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and be pro-active member of a the team.
  • Proactive, reliability and punctuality is key in this role with excellent attention to detail.

Qualification in Accountancy is desirable but not essential.

Trainee Construction Programmer/Planner

We currently have a vacancy for a Trainee Construction Programmer/Planner to centralise all of the company’s project & labour plans.

Duties of the Programmer will include:

  • Develop Construction/Tender programs.
  • Conduct site visits and look through the works and drawings when required.
  • Review contractor schedules and schedule risk analysis.
  • Produce progress/program reports in conjunction with Project & Construction Managers.
  • Updating project and site teams with all new project planning information.
  • Produce weekly look-ahead programs and manage critical paths.
  • Advise project teams of any changes or threats and potential steps to counteract these.

Minimum requirements of the role:

  • Candidate must be qualified to degree level in Construction Management.
  • Candidate will preferably have 1+ years site experience together with experience of planning within the construction industry.
  • Working knowledge of the construction process and principles.
  • Great communication skills.

Trainee Estimator

BHC is one of the UK’s leading Structural Steel Fabrication and Construction companies within the UK and Ireland.

Due to continuous expansion, the opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Estimator within our Estimating department (steel/construction).

There will be a mix of in house and external training provided to develop your skills which will include various software packages.

Estimators form an integral part of the commercial team and their role is often wide and varied as each project often holds a different challenge.

Duties of the Trainee Estimator include: – 

  • Review drawings, specifications and determine any unusual requirements that may apply to the project or sub contract items that may form part of the required scope.
  • Co-ordination of various sub-contract packages if applicable.
  • Discussion with client pre-tender where required.
  • Prepare a schedule of quantities or ‘Take Off’ for the steelwork, allocating material and labour costs specific to a particular project.
  • The ability to interpret the information received and communicate with the clients or colleagues is paramount.
  • On contract award relay relevant information such as contract information including specifications, cost build-ups, programme, potential risks and contractual issues to our internal team responsible for constructing the project.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Preferably the successful applicant will be educated to degree/HNC/HND level in a construction based subject.
  • Ideally will have experience using AutoCAD software and experience using BIM.
  • Individuals are required to be self-motivated, determined and have strong mathematical capabilities.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good IT skills with all Microsoft packages and the ability to pick up new software quickly.

Main Contract / Civils Estimator

BHC are an established contractor who have various divisions within their Company Group.

Our long established Main Contract works division successfully uses the varied in-house resources of the group to offer clients a single point of contact for their project requirements whether it be traditional contracting, design and build or full turn key developments.

Due to continuous expansion we are seeking an Estimator with a Civils/Building background to join our Main Contract estimating team.

Your Key Activities will include but not limited to: –

  • Responsible for the preparation and subsequent negotiation of Tender submissions for Civil/Building projects.
  • Examine incoming tenders and review contract potential.
  • Measuring & ‘Quantity Take-Off’ from drawings.
  • Producing Bills of Quantities.
  • Sourcing pre-project information and analysing sub-contractor quotations, agreements & enquiries.
  • Build up tender price from first principles based on the scope of works, plans, specification & programme.
  • Cost planning.
  • Produce tender report in preparation for tender adjudication.
  • Attend pre & post contract interviews, client meetings etc.
  • Collect and distribution of feedback.
  • Investigate cost effective and/or alternative solutions.
  • Input data entry onto estimating software.
  • Comply with BHC Ltd procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of latest techniques.
  • Carry out other relevant duties as required from time to time.

Required Experience:-

Your qualifications and experience should be:

  • Ideally with 5 years or more of proven estimating experience with large Civils or Main Contract Companies.
  • An HNC or degree in Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering. Not critical for an experienced estimator.
  • Experienced with various Forms of Contract, such as JCT and NEC, relevant Civils/Building works as well as various methods of measuring including SMM7 & NRM2.
  • Experience in Design & Build as well as other standard construction types of construction work.
  • A team player who is a confident communicator with all members of staff.
  • You must have excellent interpersonal skills; maintain good working relationships with colleagues, clients and suppliers and have a personable character.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to adhere to strict deadlines on a daily & weekly basis.
  • Microsoft Office proficient.
  • Ideally with experience in the use Microsoft Project or other project programming software.
  • Estimating software experience preferably Causeway.
  • Site experience advantageous.

Cost Management Accountant

We currently have a vacancy for a Cost Management Accountant within the Company who will report directly to the directors and senior management.

Candidates should have a minimum of three years’ experience developing project cost accounting methodology and processes as well as implementing these processes within ongoing projects.

Basic duties of the role:

  • Manage and drive through change initiatives as identified.
  • Understand and document key processes, whilst seeking streamlining opportunities.
  • Develop KPI reporting and analysis.
  • Challenge current ways of working, driving efficiencies and cost savings wherever possible and to set best practice across the organisation.
  • Be comfortable dealing with and working through issues and operational challenges with project teams and getting into details to ensure you understand the cost drivers of the business.
  • Reconcile and submit VAT returns to HMRC.
  • Prepare payroll reconciliations for Direct and Indirect wages.
  • Prepare Fixed Asset Schedule and depreciation allocation.
  • Any Ad-hoc financial reporting as required.
  • Manage and lead accounts department team and ensure all deadlines are met.

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Strong investigative and analytical ability.
  • Excellent attention to detail in order to accurately report any variances to budget for the duration of projects.

Assistant Administrator

We currently have a vacancy for an Assistant Administrator to support our drawing office and production teams.

Duties of the Administrator include:

  • Receive drawings from BHC / external drawing offices / technical personnel / external sources (Arch, Eng, etc.) and upload to correct locations.
  • Update drawing registers.
  • Ensure correct revisions are on drawings.
  • Issue updated drawings and registers when changes happen or when requests are made to relevant persons.
  • Send drawing packages when requested to BHC personnel.
  • Issue out weekly reports to BHC personnel or external clients where required.
  • Ensure BHC teams are kept up to date with latest information.

Requirements of the role:

  • Strong and confident communicator.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Microsoft Office proficient.
  • Willingness to learn.

Site Engineer

BHC is one of the UK’s leading Structural Steel Fabrication and Construction companies supplying and erecting fabricated steel nationwide within the UK and Ireland.

Due to expansion, we currently have a vacancy for a Site Engineer. The Site Engineer is responsible for ensuring the successful handover of structural steelwork. This includes ensuring the plumb, line and level of the steelwork compiles with the contracted tolerance and issuing of the handover certificate.

As part of the role, the Site Engineer is expected to carry out the following:

  • As Built Bolt Surveys
  • Cast in Plate Surveys
  • As Built Steel Surveys
  • Plumb and Lining of Steel
  • Casting of Bolts “Dead” (no cones).
  • Setting Out.

The Engineer must be competent in the use of Total Stations for both Surveying and Setting Out. In particular, experience with Leica Robotic Total Stations is advantageous.

The successful candidate will be able to take survey data and complete As Built Surveys using CAD.

An element of manual work such as the below is expected:

  • Plumbing of steel by tightening bolts.
  • Moving steel into position using heavy hammer and wedges.
  • Setting of Bolts.

The Engineer must be conscientious, hardworking and driven. Site Engineers at BHC are responsible for several jobs at any given time and are expected to be able to travel between them, therefore a driving license is essential. In addition to this you will also require a current CSCS card. Please note that depending on the locations of projects, working away from home may be required.

Experience in the use of Total Stations for Surveying and Setting Out is essential although not necessary with a Leica Robotic Instrument. An Engineer with a sound fundamental understanding of Setting Out and Surveying will quickly be able to adapt to using any instrument. A basic knowledge of CAD will also be useful.

Project Manager

Objective

The Project Manager will be overseeing the whole project from ground up and will have overall responsibility for all activities on site.
