Xscape Glasgow

Xscape is the ultimate family entertainment destination combining ‘real’ snow slopes with urban and lifestyle shopping, bars and restaurants, cinema, family attractions and extreme activities, all under one one roof.

The Xscape project involved the supply, fabrication, surface treatment, delivery and erection of the structural steelwork. The design solution provided an unobstructed indoor ski slope area, together with steel framing to shops, restaurants, bars and the multi-screen cinema.

BHC also supplied and installed metal decking, along with all necessary safety netting.

This project was erected utilising our own in-house steel erection squads, metal decking squads, mobile cranes and mobile elevated working platforms.

The Xscape Project: Key aspects of its construction.

The 80 tonne bolted transfer girder is assembled at ground level on a purpose-built assembly fixture.

Two 250 tonne mobile cranes begin to tandem lift the transfer girder from the assembly fixture.

BHC operatives co-ordinate the lifting operation.

The transfer girder is carefully manoeuvred into position.

Final adjustments are made to ensure the precise alignment of the transfer girder connections.

BHC operatives inch the transfer girder to its final position.

Effective teamwork ensures safety and accuracy during this critical phase.

The transfer girder has been bolted using high-strength friction grip bolts.

The installation of the roof steelwork commences above the transfer girder.

Roof trusses and gantry steelwork are erected above the transfer girder.

Cold rolled sheeting rails are erected for the fixing of the cladding system.

Cladding commences on the front elevation fixing to the sheeting rails.

The metal decking is fixed into position on the ski slope in preparation for the fibre concrete pours.

Site-assembled connections will later be shot-blasted in-situ to Swedish Standard 2.5 prior to primer coat application.
